Remodeling efforts keep home improvements sector in Oklahoma humming

Joe Rider walked around the outdoor brick oven to demonstrate the kit's pre-fabricated concrete and brick walls. His Tulsa House Beautiful Show exhibit crew had also set up a kitchen island and pizza oven, all assembled from kits made by Collinsville-based Stone Age Manufacturing.

That follows what Gordon Colebrook's seen at the 13-year-old Tulsa landscaping company he runs with his wife, Mary. He attributed Colebrook Nursery's 20-percent sales hike this year to consumers' rising interest in home remodeling.Presented by The Journal Record at the QuikTrip Center at Expo Square, Tulsa State Fairgrounds"As the economy starts to come around and turn back, we're going to have more dealers, and our sales will continue to increase," he said. "It will get better.""I'm 10- to 12-percent busier," said John Lowry, whose firm, Avex Installations, provides a number of home improvement services, often with Mike Liekhus' BA Lawns and Landscaping. But its Oklahoma City survey revealed a 14-percent rise in service request activity, a potential indicator of the Sooner State's residual economic strength. While ServiceMagic.com had no data for Tulsa, several exhibitors at this weekend's Tulsa House Beautiful Show at the QuikTrip Center (presented by The Journal Record) voiced similar experiences across northeastern Oklahoma. For editorial inquires, contact: Eric Haley Vice President of Communications Pizza Fusion 2200 West Cypress Creek Rd.
