New York City - Without Breaking Your Budget

Its the Big Apple, baby, and all roads eventually lead or cross in its streets. But you wont be doing your sightseeing there, because its too expensiveright? If youre resourceful, there are many free and/or inexpensive tourist destinations in New York City. Below are but a few including well-known sites, food, and New Yorks art scene.

(3) Sarah Childress and Michael Hirsh (07 August, 2006) "An Itchy Finger" MSNBC/Newsweek National News- Union Square Greenmarket At Union Square, vendors sell fresh produce, homemade breads, homemade drinks, and even homemade cheese and they are willing to share. They often offer free samples. The Greenmarket is a project by the Council on the Environment of NYC, and theyve managed the open-air farmers markets in New York since 1976."The truth is, it wasn't all I thought it was cracked up to be. I mean, I thought killing somebody would be this life-changing experience. And then I did it, and I was like, 'All right, whatever.' " (1)THE ARTS- Many birds, one stone A variety of tours exist for a variety of budgets, ranging from the all-day $75 tour including Ellis Island, the United Nations, and many others, to a few hours $35 tour including visits to famous New York neighborhoods and museums. For a mere $20, you can take a Harbor Cruise to the Statue of Liberty. But the unending repercussions of these atrocities aren't limited to whole populations or communities. For it is the countless personal stories of individuals and families which are, without question, the most tragic of all consequences. There is, for example, the incident which took place earlier this year in Mahmoudiyah, Iraq.May the souls of Abeer Hamza, her parents, and her sister rest in peace. Her name was Abeer Qassim Hamza al-Janabi, and for some time she'd been harassed and propositioned by a small group of American soldiers who manned the checkpoint which she passed through every day. I can only imagine how she must have prayed to God that there were some other way she could have travelled to reach her home, how she must have lain awake at night, fearing what these animals in uniforms might one day do to her. Then on March 12th, her worst fears came to pass, and, in a matter of minutes, an innocent family of six was brutally reduced to two. The parents and the two girls shot to death. The two boys orphaned, their lives changed forever.- Ethnic Delights While youre in New York, dont pass up the opportunity to sample the flavors in the worlds biggest melting pot. Whether you stop for a slice of pizza in Little Italy, or grab some Dim Sum in Chinatown, New Yorks diverse residents have brought their recipes with them from their home countries and they are ready to share them with you. A unique dining experience in New York can be had for under $10.Even Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is joining in the fun. In November 2009, they opened a brand new dog park of their own, completely fenced and decorated with flowers and benches. They also provide biodegradable bags for easy, earth-friendly cleanup. This little park gives the frequent-flying dog a fun place to stretch his legs after a long flight."I came over here because I wanted to kill people." (1)

Remember, you can find a vacation that matches your budget as long as youre willing to be flexible and creative even in New York. There are many online resources you can use to plan an exciting but realistic vacation to the Big Apple. Have fun, and good luck!
